課程概述

This course will involve an in-depth examination of the relationship between law and psychology. Students will gain an understanding of and evaluate the contribution of psychological theories and research to the criminal and civil justice system. Students will learn the psychology-law relationship through topics such as witness competency, criminal responsibility, malingering, false memory, child witnesses, family violence, risk assessment and expert testimony. This course will also include discussions of forensic psychology in relation to the judicial system and law in Taiwan. 

課程目標
Students should be able to:
Define the field of forensic psychology in terms of theory and research.
Define and evaluate adults’ and children’s roles and involvement in legal context as witnesses, victims, and perpetrators.
Identify, describe, and explain adults’ and children’s competence as witnesses and the testimony of adults and children.
Relate and critically evaluate theories and research in cognitive, social, clinical and developmental psychology to legal issues.
Understand, evaluate, and apply forensic psychological research.
Understand and evaluate expert witness testimony.
Demonstrate ability to analyze and critique theories and research in psychology and law.
Master dialogue facilitation, brainstorming, and group process skills.
Solidify writing and oral presentation skills. 
課程要求
The format of this course combines research article dissemination, Power Point lectures, multi-media presentations (newspaper articles, video clips), case studies, practical learning, discussions, brainstorming sessions, and group tasks.

1. Divide into 6 groups
2. Find a lay judge (NT1000, 3 hours) - >23 years old; Taiwan citizen; no legal background
3. Prepare pre- and post-interview (20 mins each)
4. Provide basic info about your lay judge to the TA – name, age, gender, occupation.
